Former Scoil Mhuire student Fiona Malone is studying for a Biomedical Engineering degree, after winning a Women in Engineering bursary.
Thirteen years ago, the University of Limerick established four annual Women in Engineering (WEB) bursaries to encourage women to enrol on full-time undergraduate engineering and technology programmes, where they are significantly under-represented.

Bursaries are awarded to one female student in each of the four engineering and technology departments obtaining the highest points score at entry.

Fiona, from Brenor, Piltown, is a member of the Scoil Mhuire Leaving Certificate class of 2009. This is a second award for Fiona, who was awarded a Science Foundation Ireland scholarship in December.
