Cahir gains points in Tidy Towns

The Cahir Tidy Towns group are in a celebratory mood this week with the news of a four points increase in the National Tidy Towns Awards Competition.

This brings the Town to a total of 279 point. When you consider that Cahir as at 219 just four years ago this is a brilliant achievement.

Chairman Andy Moloney has commended the volunteers that go about daily in an effort to achieve the extra marks and also those who are not part of the group who work away so diligently and without any fuss. He also thanked the staff of the County Council and the people who gave donations, flowers and equipment to the group during the year. It is amazing what can be done with such little funds and pure hard work.

The judging took place on Monday, June 18, and at that stage Tidy Towns did not have the Castle Car Park Beds complete or the Mitchelstown Road bed started. They have since then completed these jobs and painted the building in the Market Yard which is now their base and in the next week will have the library painted.

Cahir Tidy Towns will also have a new three-year plan in place and while this will mean their budget is now spent for the year, these are very visible improvements that will go into next year’s entry.

The adjudicators report is very constructive and detailed and well worth a read. Cahir gained a mark in ‘tidiness’ and one point also in the ‘residential areas.’ A further two points was gained in ‘litter control.’

Over the next few weeks we will publish findings of the report and hopefully Tidy Towns can act on them for next year.

2013 will be a big year for Cahir as it is the first of a new plan and every group in the Town will need to see what they can do to improve their town.
