Carrick-on-Suir Council to sign contract to finish Ballylynch revamp project in January

Carrick-on-Suir Town Council won’t be ready to sign a contract to complete the E2m revamp of the Mountain View area of the Ballylynch estate until January, the Council’s annual Budget Meeting was informed.
Meanwhile, tenants have received keys from the Council for three new houses built in Mountain View under the regeneration scheme.
Construction of two remaining new homes will be completed by the new contractor who will be appointed to finish the project.
The E376,000 emergency works contract to make the various unfinished building sites in Mountain View safe finished at the end of last week. The emergency works began in August.
When asked by Fianna Fail Cllr Sylvia Cooney-Sheehan when the Council would be signing the contract to complete the project, Town Clerk Michael O’Brien said a letter of intention had been issued to a contractor and the firm had sent back information the Council had required.
However, the Council was not in a “contractual position yet”. There were issues, which he would only discuss in camera with councillors, (which means without the press present).
Mr O’Brien promised to update councillors before the Council was signed the contract.
Cllrs Cooney-Sheehan expressed concern about the quality of railings erected around the remaining building sites in Mountain View.
She and Cllrs Richie O’Neill and Margaret Croke appealed to Council management to employ security on the estate over Christmas to protect the unfinished sites.
Mr O’Brien said the palisade fencing was specified by their insurers and the Council was satisfied it was adequate for this purpose.
He also didn’t think it was necessary to employ security on the site but under pressure from the three councillors he agreed to look at the issue again.
Galway based company Atlantic Developments was the original contractor for the Mountain View section of the Ballylynch Regeneration Scheme but work stopped abruptly on the project in April when the company went into receivership.
