Clonmel Lions Club
On the 11th and 12th of March, the Clonmel Lion’s Club, in conjunction with Intel, ran a very successful Youth Ideation Camp in Hotel Minella.
Patricia Mathews, President of the Clonmel Lions Club, stated that,” the purpose of the project was to bring Transition Year students from all schools in the Clonmel area together and take them through two unique days of education designed by Intel.”
Over 100 students attended the camp and enjoyed a talk by local entrepreneur Gary Gubbins, Red Nose Wine. Lion’s Club member, Donagh McMahon chaired the event in conjunction with J.J. Killian, Ignite Business Solutions, who facilitated the two days.
The students were split into teams, containing individuals from each school, and taken through a process to encourage them to become entrepreneurs and innovators. Each team was coached by Lions club members and local business people, who brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the students.
All of the students worked extremely hard over the two days and created some amazing solutions to the problem they were set, which was to use technology to enable senior citizens to live longer, healthier, happier and more independent lives.
On day two the teams pitched their business concepts to the judging panel comprising of Ita Horan, Tipperary SR County Enterprise Board, Brian Cleary, CEO Clonmel Chamber of Commerce and Michael Wright, Home Instead Senior Care. The judges had an extremely hard task to select a winning team and after much debate Team Eagle was selected and will now proceed to the All Ireland Final. This will be hosted by Intel in Lexlip on 20th April 2013, where they will pitch their business idea and compete for the main prize, a trip to Intel’s HQ in Silicon Valley, USA.
