Death of Michael O’Connor
The death occurred on Friday, November 2, at South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, of Michael O’Connor, Garranmore.
Even though he had reached the advanced age of 92 years, he was up and about enjoying good health and was only ill for a short time.
Last June, as the oldest past pupil of Dualla N.S. living in the parish, he cut the tape for the official opening of the new school.
His wife Nellie (nee Nolan) predeceased him in 2005 and his son Richard in 2006. He was brother of the late Jimmy and Tessie Grant who died in recent years.
Michael, a man of quiet and placid disposition loved to trace and had a good knowledge of the history of his native Garranmore. In his young years, he served with the local defence force. For about 50 years, he worked with Maurice and Bernard, he continued helping out on their farm for another 15 years.
He took a keen interest in sport, enjoyed race meetings and was a member of Dualla Hurling Club. He also enjoyed music and dancing and loved playing the mouth organ.
His remains were removed on Sunday, November 4, from Lonergans Funeral Parlour, Cashel, to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Dualla, and on the Monday, after Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr. Peter Brennan CC and assisted by Fr. Joe Egan PP and Fr. James Purcell CC Cashel and Rosegreen, interment took place in the adjoining cemetery.
He is survived by his son Martin and daughter Mary and by his sister Pauline O’Connor, Cashel, also Catherine and Mary (daughters-in-law), grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Peace to his soul.
