Cyclists Maura Buckley and Paddy O'Callaghan from Clogheen with Sarah Kenny, Ardfinnan, at a coffee morning to raise funds for the Tour de Munster.

From Thursday August 9 through to Sunday 12 a team of 150 cyclists, led by the legendary Sean Kelly, will complete an extremely demanding 4-day, 600km charity cycle through the six counties of Munster in aid of Down syndrome Ireland. (DSI) (www.tourdemunster.com)

Starting in Cork, the cyclists will make their way over the Vee, into Clogheen, where they will stop for lunch, then proceed through Cahir, Tipperary town, Newport, Nenagh and finish day one in Killaloe in Co. Clare .

Please show your support to locals Paddy O’Callaghan and Maura Buckley from Clogheen who are taking part in the charity cycle. The cyclists cover their own expenses and all proceeds go directly to the Down Syndrome association in each of the six counties.

Please support you local branch, Down Syndrome Tipperary, by sponsoring Paddy and Maura through sponsorship cards in local shops and businesses or by contributing to the street bucket collections that will take place in Cahir, Tipperary Town, Thurles and Nenagh on Thursday August 9 and Clonmel on August 10.

We are appealing for people to show their support for the cyclists by welcoming them into Tipperary on “The Vee” at the Tipperary/ Waterford border at approx 1.15pm, in Clogheen at about 2pm, Cahir at about 3pm Tipperary Town 3.40.and in other towns along the route. Please show your support for these wonderful people who have given their time and energy to raise much needed funding for DSI.

DSI (www.downsyndrome.ie) is a voluntary organisation, and is the biggest single group concerned with the welfare of people with a learning disability in Ireland. Its services include speech and Language therapy, occupational therapy, Educational and medical advisory experts and counseling services. The objective is to ensure that each individual is developed to his/her full potential and to help people with Down Syndrome make their own futures as bright and independent as possible. This all takes funds, and through the great work of the Tour De Munster cyclists more people with Downs Syndrome will be helped in a practical way.

So please give generously to this wonderful event and become part of the ‘Share the journey’ appeal.
