Drought is over for Cahir U12 and U16 champs!
It has been a great weekend for Cahir GAA. On Friday night last the U12 squad won the U12A football premier games and on Sunday the U16 squad won the south U16B Football championship
The drought is over!
The finals of all four divisions of Under 12 Football took place in Clogheen, last Friday. The last time Cahir won this was 2003. Cahir & Moyle Rovers led the way in the Division 1 Final.
The first ten minutes had Cahir under pressure, but a lovely point from Dylan Fitzgearld got our boys going. Tiernan McLoughlin played the match of his life and had a stormer of a first half. Stephen Grogan stepped up and buried a penalty in the back of the net - the crowd went wild and Cahir lifted the heads and picked up the pace! Sean Murphy took on the all opposition and scored a mighty goal. Eoghan Kelly captained well and scored some magnificent points. Jack Moloney cleared everything that came his way and Eoin Corbett sent in some quality possession.
Half time score Cahir 2.8 Moyle Rovers 1.4.
The pressure rose again in the second half, Kenny Cunningham scored a lovely goal to settle Cahir, Tommy Magner, who was excellent throughout the match made some mighty saves. Nicholas Reidy had a fantastic game. David Richards made some great interceptions when the game was in the melting pot. Thomas Kelly and Jake Kiely ran tirelessly all night.
The final whistle blew Cahir 3.8 Moyle Rovers 1.9 - Cahir the South Under 12 Division 1 champions!
Our thanks are due to all the supporters that travelled out and cheered us on. Thanks to the parents – without your commitment to bringing the boys training and to matches we would have no success.
Many thanks to Andy, Regina, Tom and Maura, for all the hard work, time and effort they put into all the Under 12 squad.

U16 South Champions
Fethard was the venue for the second championship win this weekend. The Cahir lads from the very start showed that they were well up for this game. The goalkeeping of Raros Stoica was excellent all year. The launch pad for the win was the excellent full back line of Keelan Looby, Dylan Walsh and Ryan O‘Donnell who limited Ballingarry to one point from play. Darragh Howard, James Walsh and Blake Ryder were in top form in the half back line. At midfield Mickie O’Connor and Conor Cashman were in control with some good deliveries and some of the fielding was excellent. Eanna Heffernan, Ryan Murphy and Davy English ran themselves into the ground while the full forward line of Luke Cagney, Graham O Dwyer and Brian McKenna were a constant threat. Ryan Murphy kicked the first point. James Walsh was in command at centre back. But again it was Keelan Looby, Ryan O’Donnell and Dylan Walsh who epitomised the courage and determination of the team. They always led from the front set up some fine attacks. A fortuitous goal from a long distance free from Mickie O’Connor was crucial to Cahir seeing out this game. Brian McKenna was a constant torn in the Ballingarry side. It was a nice birthday present for Luke Cagney who also had a fine game. It was unfortunate for Brendan Donaghy and John Casey who missed out through injury. Well done to Tadhg Howard and his team of selectors for a fine display. Many thanks also to Mary Howard who organised the catering afterwards.
