Piltown Enterprise Centre launches new businesses competition

A competition for start up businesses being launched by the Piltown Enterprise Centre this week could give eager entrepreneurs the opportunity of a lifetime with a significant prize fund up for grabs, mentoring and other supports available.

The Start Your Own Business Competition is aimed at people living within a 30 mile radius of Piltown and will be officially launched by Environment, Community & Local Government Minister Phil Hogan at the GAA Centre, Piltown on Friday at 7.30pm.

Piltown Enterprise Centre was established in 1998 for the purpose of creating jobs in the area and offered incubation units and support for many businesses that developed and moved on to larger premises.

Over the past two years, the group behind the centre has been busy rejuvenating it once again, at a time when there is a huge need for new business start-ups and job creation.

This chance-of-a-lifetime competition could change the fortunes of those ready to take the plunge into the business world
with a total value prize fund of €25,000, including cash prize of €10,000 on offer, plus other ‘soft supports’.

The group behind the Piltown Enterprise Centre is glad to be back in action once again following a lull during the Celtic Tiger years.

“During the early part of this century the group was inactive due to the lack of urgency for creating small businesses. However, for the last two years Piltown Enterprise Centre has been active in a focused and positive way and new members, from organisations within the community, were drafted in. They have been meeting on a regular basis to discuss and debate where next for them,” said Gerri Hickey, spokesperson for the Piltown Enterprise Centre.

The competition is designed to encourage and promote new and innovative commercial enterprises, as well as an entrepreneurial culture in the area.

“The winners will have the full backing of our business support unit in getting started,” said Ms Hickey.
