Green Flag raised at Drangan national school

St. Patrick’s School, Drangan celebrated the raising of their second Green Flag recently. Mrs Mary Dunne, former principal, was invited to raise the ‘Energy’ flag before a large audience of school pupils, staff, parents and parishioners. Ms Sharon Skully, South Tipperary Co. Council’s Environmental Officer, complimented the hard-working Green School Committee of St. Patrick’s N.S. The committee made the entire school community more aware of simple energy saving measures in their school and in their homes.
Save Energy Days were a huge success because pupils enjoyed walking, cycling or car-pooling to and from school. St. Patrick’s school even had a pupil come to school on her pony. Pupils came to school as their ancestors did in the old days, but their thoughts were on a cleaner , greener future.
All pupils conducted surveys to monitor energy usage in their homes. Thanks to the committee’s persistent campaign, St. Patrick’s school and surrounding community have adopted several energy conserving habits, to lessen fuel and electricity consumption, thus reducing the amounts spent on those bills.
