Mimi Lane wins two top awards at Waterford Festival

Clonmel’s Mimi Lane became one of the youngest ever female singers to win two top awards at the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera on Sunday night last when the festival results were announced in the Theatre Royal Waterford.

16 year-old Mimi, daughter of John and Schira Lane, Northgate, Fethard Road, Clonmel played the role of Eponine in Les Miserables with the South Eastern Youth Theatre Group and was awarded the Best Female Singer Award, as well as the award for Best Female Performance.

The production, which scooped over ten awards including Best Overall Show, was directed by David Hennessy, who was also successful in the Best Director Category. Other awards won by the production included Best Chorus, Best Stage Manager, Best Musical Director (Wayne Browne), Best Technical and Best Male Singer (Glen Murphy).

No stranger to the awards podium, Mimi was the winner of Clonmel’s Got Talent in March and took home second place in the Treaty Cup in Feile Lumni in April.

She studies voice with Owen Gilhooley in Limerick and piano with Geraldine Molumby in Clonmel.
