Musical Society to pay tribute to founders before performance

Amy Power plays

Amy Power plays "Anybodys" in Carrick Musical Society's production of West Side Story, which opens at The Strand Theatre this Saturday night.

Months of planning and rehearsals will finally come to fruition for Carrick-on-Suir Musical Society at The Strand Theatre this weekend. when the curtains go up for its 100th show - West Side Story.

The set is ready, the lighting lamps are hung, the orchestra is rehearsing, costumes are selected and pressed, props have been gathered and there are a hundred or more things that will be ready for the opening show at 8pm on Saturday.

The cast and crew are, at this stage, a well-rehearsed and very well prepared team.

The production team of Liam Butler assisted by Phyllis Cooney, Patricia Woods assisted by Declan Robinson, Fergal Carroll, Eamon O’Malley, Chris Hennessy and Martin Morrissey have done Trojan work in getting this production ready for the stage.

They thank the cast and crew for the dedication they have shown to the Society over the last couple of months. They now only require one more element to complete the jigsaw - an audience.

So if you haven’t got a ticket up to now, you are going to be disappointed if you miss this wonderful occasion.

A photographic tribute to the founding members of the Musical Society will be officially opened in the foyer and coffee dock area of The Strand Theatre at around 7pm on Sunday just before the evening performance of West Side Story.

The Musical Society will also celebrate its second Mass for this year in St Molleran’s Church, Carrickbeg at 11am on Sunday.

Finally, the Society thanks Carrick-on-Suir’s hairdressers for their wonderful response to the appeal for help with West Side Story cast hair styles.
