Royseven and Louise Killeen among the Clonmel Junction Festival highlights
Royseven will get the Clonmel Junction Festival off to a storming start on this Friday when they perform two gigs at O'Keeffe's.
The annual Junction Festival will get off to a storming start on this Friday when Royseven perform two gigs at O’Keeffe’s. They’ll play an all ages show at 3pm, followed by a later show at 8.30.
The band’s frontman is Clonmelman Paul Walsh, who recently received a civic reception at the Town Hall.
2011 was a pivotal year for Royseven. It had been five years since the release of the Dublin based sextet’s debut, the Top 20 ‘Art Of Insincerity’ that gave us the epic ‘Older’, the stunning ‘Crash’ and nine other gems.
Last year saw Royseven return with a new label in Warner Music and with a new sound for a new chapter with ‘You Say, We Say’, their first No. 1 album.
‘Killer’ was the first single taken from the album and was followed by ‘We Should Be Lovers’, which became the soundtrack of 2011 in Ireland and concluded the year as the most played song on Irish Radio. ‘Dance’ and ‘No Romance’ suitably followed in the mindset of popularity and easily polled Top 20 and Top 30 in the end of year airplay chart. ‘We Should Be Lovers’ was also awarded the Meteor Choice Music Prize for 2011 Song Of The Year.
They also played at the Oxegen festival as well as supporting the Kaiser Chiefs, Duran Duran and of course performing a stomping set at the Junction in Clonmel.
Another musical highlight of the Clonmel festival will be the appearance of Louise Killeen with Preacher’s Son at the Festival Club at Hearns Hotel on Saturday night, July 7.
