The Wizard of Oz is the most magical musical of them all
The White Memorial Theatre is a hive of activity as St. Mary’s Choral Society are preparing to present their 109th production, The Wizard of Oz, in just over two weeks time from Friday, 23rd November to Saturday, 1st December.
The most magical musical of them all is sure to be a huge hit with Clonmel audiences and numbers such as ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’, ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘We’re off to see the Wizard’ are sure to lift the roof off the White Memorial Theatre.
This will be the first time that The Wizard of Oz has been staged in Clonmel and the production is being directed by Diarmuid Vaughan. The Musical Director is Danny Carroll, Choreography is by Gillian Hewitt-Fitzgerld and Majella Louise Fitzgerald and Set Design is by Diarmuid Vaughan. Margaret O’Sullivan is the Children’s Co-ordinator, Ruth Butler and Pat McGrath are in charge of backstage and Robert Donlan is Properties Manager for the production.
The lead role of Dorothy is being played by local 14 year-old Ciara Laste. Society Chairman George Barry plays the Wizard, Michelle Moloney is Glinda, Michelle Smith is the Wicked Witch/Miss Gulch, Kevin Fahey plays The Scarecrow, David Hughes is The Tin Man, Sheena Fennessy is The Cowardly Lion, Noel Cairns is Uncle Henry, Grainne Vaughan is Aunt Em and Toto the dog is being played by Tootsie Vaughan! Supporting this impressive line-up of principals is the society’s award-winning chorus and a supporting cast of 40 children who make up the Munchinkins, Citizens of Oz, Winkies and Flying Monkeys.
The Wizard of Oz will run for ten performances including a matinee performance on Sunday, 25th November with a reduced ticket price of E15. Tickets for all other performances are E18.
