Caislean Nua Comhaltas branch are very proud to claim victory of a senior ladies set All-Ireland title at Fleadh Ceol na hÉireann in Cavan last weekend. The branch, which was only formed under 10 months ago, has worked tirelessly all year in order to achieve this victory. The 8 girls who were victorious in the under 18 competition last year moved up to the senior category and retained their All-Ireland title and also came 3rd place in the Senior Ceilí Competition

Kathy McGrath dancing teacher said” when the girls danced it raised the roof off the Cavan crystal hotel, the music and dancing complimented each other perfectly and credit must go to local musicians Noel and Brendan Clancy from Stradbally Co, Waterford for their time and effort with this set over the last number of years. I am very proud of the whole group who have been so dedicated all year”

Deputy Mattie McGrath who was in attendance at the competition said “The atmosphere at the competition was electric and it was a very proud day for the whole village of Newcastle and surrounding areas. Newcastle is an area steeped with a tradition of set dancing dating back 40 years when Monnie Hallahan came to the area and with Kathy and this group of girls our national culture will be carried on”

Caislean Nua CCE would like to extend their gratitude to the supporters who travelled to Cavan in huge numbers to support the girls. Irish dancing classes will commence Friday 14th September and a date will be decided for music classes as soon as possible. We look forward to enjoying another year of our Irish music and dance tradition. For further details contact us at caislean.nuacce@gmail.com or 0879525770.
