Santa Claus is coming to Tipperary Town on Thursday, November 17 to officially turn on the Christmas lights.

The stage will be set between the two banks where the proceedings will begin from 4.15pm with some festive cheer and tunes from our local C.J Kickham band and they are joined by the Tipperary Musical Society. The local radio, Tipp Mid-West, will be on hand to provide M.C for this event and proceedings will be broadcast live back to the afternoon show.

At 4.45pm Santa Claus will begin his journey from T.R.Y.S offices at Bank Place where he will be escorted on bicycle by the Wobbly Circus and local school children.

When Santa is welcomed on stage we will be entertained by the Wobbly Circus before the Christmas lights are officially turned on.

Santa Claus would like to let all the boys and girls know that he will be collecting Santa letters on the day for anyone who wishes to meet him. Santa would also like to encourage everyone (young and young at heart) to wear their Christmas hats as we are attempting to set a record for the most hats worn collectively by a single crowd at a given time.

The Christmas lights are being extended this year to include Fr. Matthew Street, Abbey Street, Church Street and The Plan.

The Christmas lights group, which is a subgroup of T.I.R.D/Chamber of Commerce, would like to thank Lisa McGrath and all at T.R.Y.S for co-ordinating and organising the Christmas lights switch on. It is a joy to see community groups working together to show the wonderful community spirit that has always existed in Tipperary.

So come along young and old at heart this Thursday from 4.15pm and see Tipperary Town kick start your festive season.
