A photograhic history of life and times from the 70s to today has gone on display in Carrick on Suir library.

Well-known local photographer Tom Grace welcomed a representative gathering to the launch of an exhibition of his photographic images of landscapes, seascapes and digital art at the Public Library, Greenside on Wednesday, June 6.

Tom thanked the library staff, members of the local Camera Club and his wife Helen and family for helping in the preparation of the exhibition.

The formal opening was performed by Denis Hyland a long time friend and photography colleague of Tom’s. Denis said he was honoured to be asked to open such a wonderful exhibition, adding that he was bowled over by the quality of the photographs.

He told some humorous stories of working with Tom Grace while photographing weddings. He wished Tom the best of luck saying that the framed photographs are great value at €E125.

Town Mayor Cllr. Patsy Fitzgerald praised Tom Grace for recording life in Carrick on Suir and surrounding area for posterity since 1977. The Mayor particularly liked the photograph of the cot on the river Suir and said he would purchase it for the Heritage Centre where it will compliment the original cot on the river, which is now on display at the Centre.

Parallel with the exhibition, Tom Grace launched a new website entitled ‘Carrick on Suir Faces and Places.com’ showing images from 1977 to the present time. The website was created by Eagle Dreams based at Johnstown Business Park, Waterford. Director of the Company Ronan Cleary congratulated Tom and said the website would be continually updated.

There was unanimous approval of the exhibition from those present with many selecting their own particular favourite. The various sunsets were very popular as were the images of an old messenger bike, an old Moris Minor Car and an old tractor. The exhibition contains photographs taken in Counties Tipperary, Waterford, Kilkenny, Carlow, Cork, Wexford, Kerry and Wicklow.

The exhibition will continue in the library until Saturday, June 23, and is well worth a visit.
