To Leap From Paradise by Jim Daly is the final instalment of a busy season from Stagecraft. This magical production plays for three nights at The Hub in Albert Street, Clonmel from this Thursday, 30 May to Saturday, 1 June.
This magical production tells the story of 14 year-old John and his younger sister Rosie. During an emotionally-fraught time in the life of their family, a captivating young girl enters John’s life.
To Leap From Paradise was commissioned by Stagecraft in 2006 and was inspired by a series of workshops led by the writer. The aims of the workshops were to discover what the cast wanted from a new play, what stories were close to them and what they would like to see on stage. Now seven years later a new cast bring tremendous life to this brilliant script.
The play is an ensemble-based piece where each of the actors contributes to the overall storytelling. There are no so-called stars, as each actor is a star in their own right. Theatre is an art form that is completely reliant on people working together for the greater good. The young people have been creating as a team for the last nine months and have participated in weekly workshops on devising and character development and the production is an extension of these workshops.
Stagecraft’s artistic director Shane Dempsey says “To Leap From Paradise is a piece that is very close to my heart, as it was written by a good friend of mine who sadly passed away a few years ago. Jim was a force of nature and I am delighted that his words live on and our young cast are really enjoying the piece. Aislinn McCabe is an incredibly talented young director and this show is certain to be one of the highlights of this year’s season.”
Tickets for the production are now available in Premier Music Store, O’Connell Street, Clonmel. For more information log onto WWW.STAGECRAFTYT.COM
