The biggest new star on the dancing scene, Derek Ryan hails from Co. Carlow. Growing up with a love of Irish traditional music, he competed at an early age in the fleadh ceoils, winning two all-Ireland titles in both bodhran and ceili drumming.

He started gigging at the age of 12, working regularly in the social dancing scene in the southeast of Ireland, performing with his brother Adrian, as the very popular ‘Ryan Brothers’.

At 17, his career in music became fulltime, signing to Warner Music London as lead singer with Irish pop band D-side, whose achievements included several meteor award nominations, multi-platinum selling single ‘Real World’ in Ireland, adding to his 3 top 10 hits across the water in the UK. Live T.V appearances included Top of the Pops, GMTV and The Late Late Show.

Returning to Ireland in September 2009, after several years on the London function scene, Derek became a member of the legendary Miami Showband for selective dates around the country, following in the footsteps of the great Dickie Rock, before deciding to venture into creating his own album and show.

Derek harbours a keen interest in song-writing, and, following many competition victories including ‘A Song For Carlow’ and the ‘International Song Of Peace’ in Tipperary town, he was offered a publishing deal with DWB music in Surrey, UK.

Ryan is making a dramatic impact on the dancing scene with many of his self penned songs like ‘God’s Plan’, ‘A Mothers Son’, ‘The Belle Of Liverpool’, ‘Made Of Gold’ and his latest hit ‘ I Got My Baby Back’ dominating the airwaves.

He makes his first appearance at The Times Hotel, Tipperary Town on Sunday night next, April 22.

Doors open at 9pm and dancing is at 10.15pm.
