The Glen of Aherlow Walking Festival took place over the June Bank Holiday attracting trekkers from all over Ireland and some international visitors too.

Organised by the Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society and the Galtee Walking Club this is one of Irelands leading walking festivals and gives people the opportunity to enjoy the delights of the natural environment in the Glen with the mountains, lakes, fresh air, interaction with fellow walkers and fun and merriment and nightly entertainment.

All walks are graded and were led by experienced guides from the Galtee Walking Club. The A and B walks took the trekkers onto the high Galtees whilst the C walks catered for the casual walker and followed the national loop walks on Slievenamuck and the lower Galtees, giving the opportunity to enjoy the heritage and culture of the Glen.

Each local tourism provider in the Glen is signed up to a ‘Walkers Welcome Charter’ to ensure a comfortable, safe and enjoyable experience for all and this level of welcome and service for visitors was one of the highlights that propelled the Glen of Aherlow into the Irish Times top 5 holiday destinations in Ireland and the best inland holiday destination.

The spectacular beauty of the Glen of Aherlow and its secret gems have now been uncovered to the nation in the Irish Times competition: the news of its beauty, walks, raw experience with nature, great food, accommodation and warm welcome is reaching people all over Ireland.
