For the third year running a magical series of performances from a host of acts will take place in the enchanted surroundings of a dark, damp cavern on the border of Cork and Tipperary.
More specifically, Mitchelstown Caves will come alive once again with some of Ireland’s most distinctive and sought-after talents, as Cork Opera House and Carraig Productions proudly present what promises to be another truly unique and unforgettable experience from Friday, 19th to Sunday, 21st July in the intimate and breathtakingly eerie location of The Cave.
In what promises to be a truly unforgettable experience, promising new Irish act Rosin O, with her expressive voice full of warmth and depth, and one of Ireland’s best-loved and accomplished musicians Liam O’Maonlai, with his skilful repertoire in traditional instruments, will commence the series on Friday, 19th July. On Saturday, 20th July Soak, aka Bridie Monds-Watson, with her “raw, untamed talent”, acoustic sound and pure voice, and acclaimed singer songwriter Declan O’Rourke, with his songs filled with compassion, romance and a sense of mortality and history, will captivate their audience and enliven the Cave.
On the final night of the series, Sunday, 21st July, The Henry Girls, a musical trio of Donegal sisters with a unique, rootsy folk sound and renowned for their fine close harmonies and musical arrangement, and the West Cork Ukulele Orchestra with their nifty instrumental skills and sumptuously close harmonies, will bring rays of sunshine to illuminate the evocative darkness of this unique venue.
Not only are the artists involved so unique in their styles and charismatic in their delivery, The Mitchelstown Caves promises to play as much a unique and charismatic role in the evening.
There are 88 steep steps down into the cave, which will lead to this most unusual of performance spaces. With the temperature in the Cave at a constant 12 degrees, the climate will be the only thing that is so temperate, as the timbre of music to be heard will be searingly hot.
Those attending the event will be asked to sit down and brace themselves for a completely unforgettable and inimitable experience within the depths of the Cave.
People are kindly asked to arrive at the entrance to Mitchelstown Caves at 7pm.
