Last weekend over sixty-four members of the Mansergh family came to Tipperary Town to join their 6th Clan Rally that takes place every four years.

The large extended family flew in from New Zealand, USA, Canada, Australia, Italy, Germany, UK, Bali and Ireland. One of the highlights of the weekend was that so many Mansergh’s had arrived for the gathering and some for the very first time.

People from all over the world identify themselves as members of the Mansergh Clan because they can trace their family roots to the Mansergh family of Grenane House, or they can trace their family roots to the Manzerge named in the Doomsday book of 1066, Volume 1, pg 301.

The weekend commenced on Friday evening at the Excel Centre where Mayor Ruairdi Devitt welcomed the party to Tipperary. The warm atmosphere continued at Norrie O’Brien’s bar singer/songwriter, Denis Allen (who received a gold record for writing the song Limerick you’re a Lady) entertained the crowd.

On Saturday the Mansergh Clan took a coach tour to Castle Leake, Lanespark and Ballybur - all these places have connections with the Mansergh Family going back through the generations.

The main highlight of the weekend was gathering for lunch at Grenane House, which has been the seat of the Mansergh Family for over three hundred years.

Special thanks must go to Philippa Mansergh-Wallace who organised the whole event and a thank you to Mr. John Bradshaw and the Tipperary Clans Heritage Society. All the visitors for this special event received a ‘Failte Thiobraid Arann’.
