St. Mary’s Choral Society in Clonmel has commenced rehearsals for Fiddler on the Roof, the society’s 113th production, which will be staged from April 25 to May 3 in the White Memorial Theatre.
One of the most popular and beloved of all stage musicals and one of Broadway’s longest-running of all time, Fiddler on the Roof enjoyed a marathon run of over 13 years and over 3,000 performances from its premiere in 1964. It won nine Tony Awards, had four Broadway revivals and was made into a film of the same name starring Chaim Topol.
Fiddler on the Roof captures all the emotions of laughter and joy to tears and sadness and is filled to the brim with memorable and instantly recognisable songs including If I Were a Rich Man, Matchmaker Matchmaker, Sunrise Sunset, To Life, Tradition and many more. This will be the third time St. Mary’s has staged this ever-popular musical and while still in the early stages of rehearsal, new and old members are welcome to come along and join the cast for what promises to be a wonderful show. Rehearsals continue each Wednesday night at 8pm in the White Memorial Theatre.
