Tickets go on sale next Monday, November 7 for Brewery Lane Theatre’s upcoming double bill of one-act plays by Woody Allen and George Bernard Shaw.
The performances of Allen’s “Riverside Drive” and Shaw’s “The Shewing of Blanco Posnet” will be staged for eight nights from Saturday, November 12 to Saturday, November 19.
“Riverside Drive” is a well crafted hilarious story about Fred, a schizophrenic vagrant, who encounters Jim, a successful screenwriter on Upper West Side Manhattan’s waterfront and attempts to make a deal with him.
Enter Barbara, Jim’s mistress, with whom Jim is planning to break up with.
Barbara, however, has other plans as does the ever imaginative Fred who takes ‘a leap into the unthinkable’ to salvage Jim’s affairs.
GB Shaw described his play as ‘ a sermon in crude melodrama’. “The Shewing-up of Blanco Posnet” is a religious tract in dramatic form.
In 1909Shaw jousted with government censorship, an agency acting under the auspices of the Lord Chamberlain.
His play had been refused a license to perform because it dealt openly with prostitution.
Both plays have an exciting cast line-up of well known names and faces to Brewery Lane’s stage.
Tickets can be booked at the Heritage Centre, Main St. Carrick-on-Suir, telephone (051) 640200. Tickets cost €15.
Doors open at 8pm and the play commences at 8.15pm. This is sure to be a great evening’s entertainment for all theatre goers.
