A budding musical star, with deep roots in local music tradition, is set to tread the boards in a production of Phantom of the Opera.

Lucy Tobin, from Boytonrath, has been cast in the leading role of Christine Daae in the much loved dramatic musical. It is being staged by Phoenix Productions Youth Group in Thurles later this summer.

Phoenix Productions Youth Group will present Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Phantom of the Opera in the Premier Hall Thurles from Wednesday, August 7, to Saturday, August 10.

This year is the 15th anniversary of Phoenix and will be of great interest to Cashel patrons of the arts as local girl Lucy takes the female lead.

Lucy has just completed her Leaving Cert in the Ursuline Thurles and is pursuing an Honours Degree in music this September in the highly regarded Cork School of Music.

She is a grandaughter of the well known and highly accomplished local musician Mr Billy D’Arcy (RIP).

This production promises to be visually stunning and highly dramatic under the guidance of the brilliant director Mr Gerard O’Brien of Thurles and the musical baton of the maestro Mr David Wray with choreography by Aisling Doyle.

We would encourage as many locals as possible to go to see the performance as this is the first time a Cashel native is taking the lead in a Phoenix production and we are justly proud of Lucy’s achievement.
