A thrilling production of Dale Wasserman’s master piece “Man of La Mancha”, one of the best-loved musicals of all time will be performed by Tipperary Musical Society next February and preparations have started to get under way at TMS HQ.
The TMS committee along with director David Hennessey was delighted last week to announce the cast for the spectacular show. Auditions were held over the past couple of weeks in Ballykisteen Hotel and last Wednesday news broke of who will be playing the leading roles. Cathal O’Donoghue will step into the leading man shoes once more as he takes on the role of Miguel de Cervantes/Don Quixote. The leading lady “Dulcinea” will be none other than our own Deirdre Ryan who is back on stage with us after she took a break last year. “Sancho” the sidekick of Don Quixote will be played by Willie “Bun” Ryan. Supporting our three leads will be Anthony Flynn as “Dr. Carrasco”, Gerry Ryan as “The Barber”, Joe Franklin as “Padre”, Pamela Russell as “Maria” and Liam Carey as “The Governor”. Other members of the cast to take on supporting roles are Sean Edmonds, Kieran Hickey, Laoise Kelly, Kenneth Hanley, William “Chilly” Hogan, Pádraig Lohan, Tommy O’Brien and Jason Ryan.
Set in a foreboding dungeon at the height of the Inquisition, “Man of La Mancha” vividly imagines the later life of the great Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes as he awaits his trial. The musical moves seamlessly between the prison and Cervantes’s own outsized imagination, where noble idealism finds expression in his greatest literary creation, Don Quixote. “Man of La Mancha” – with a heartfelt score that includes the worldwide hit “The Impossible Dream” is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Booking for this beautiful show which is not to be missed is expected to open mid January. Rehearsals begin on Thursday, November 10 at Ballykisteen Hotel at 8pm. All new members are more than welcome to join us.
