Cahir’s Swiss Cottage will open for the summer season this weekend.
The Swiss Cottage will start to welcome visitors from this Friday, March 31. Cahir Castle is open year-round.
Local Fine Gael T.D. Tom Hayes has confirmed the 2012 opening times for the heritage sites in Tipperary under the control of the Office of Public Works. The announcement comes following details obtained from the Minister of State with special responsibility for the OPW, Brian Hayes T.D. “The Minister and the OPW regularly review the opening arrangements at all heritage sites nationwide as they try and maintain a balance between conservation, preservation and tourism needs, as well as dealing with the ongoing budgetary realities,” according to Deputy Hayes.
“Cahir Castle will continue to open all year round while the Swiss Cottage will be open from March 31 to October 24. I’m also happy to report that despite the financial constraints facing the OPW, the Minister has decided to continue the ‘Free Day’ on the first Wednesday of every month. This day will allow tourists in Ireland to visit some of our country’s extraordinary sites absolutely free of charge.
