Tiger Sharks impress in Mallow gala

On Saturday 23rd February, 19 members of the junior squad of Tipperary Tiger Sharks travelled to Mallow to swim in a Grade C gala. It was a fantastic day with all of our swimmers achieving great PB’s which is a well deserved result of swimmer’s hard work, competitive spirit and commitment of the coaches Elena Klimonov, Miriam McCormack and Michael Foley. Every swimmer demonstrated good technique and willingness to win, reflected in the club motto ‘It’s not how fast you swim –it’s how you swim fast’. As a result Tiger Sharks finished this gala with 4 new B Grade swimmers, 7 individual medals and 2 medals for team relays.

Denis Klimonov (9) swam well in his events achieving PB’s of 0.78 sec in 50m butterfly and 0.95 sec in 50m Breast.

Sean O’Neill (10) had an excellent swim achieving PB’s in all of his events, 5.22 sec in 100m Free, 6.34 sec in 50m Back, 3.03 sec in 50m Free and 3.79 sec in 50m Breast.

Jack English (10) also achieved PB’s in all of his events, 5.22 sec in 100m Free, a phenomenal 12.03 sec in 50m Back, 4.50 sec in 50m Free and a well deserved 7.21 sec in 50m Breast.

Dominic Hayes (10) swam well with PB’s of 4.38 sec in 100m Free, 2.59 sec in 50m Free and 3.34 sec in 50m Breast.

Patrick Tynan (12) this was Patrick’s first Grade C gala and he out performed himself on the day with amazing results, achieving an incredible ‘B’ time for 100m Free and 50m Butterfly as well as bringing home a gold medal for 50m Free with silver medals for 100m Free and 50m Butterfly.

David Kennedy (12) had an excellent swim with PB’s of 3.92 sec in 100m Free resulting in a ‘B’ time and 1.24 sec in 50m Butterfly. David also won a bronze medal for 100m Free.

Micheal McCabe (12) performed very well with PB’s of 0.40 sec in 50m Back, 1.04 sec in 50m Butterfly, 0.50 sec in 100IM resulting in a ‘B’ time and 0.34 sec in 50m Breast.

Orrin Cassidy (13) had an excellent swim with PB’s of an incredible 10.04 sec in 100m Free giving him his first ‘B’ time, 2.82 sec in 50m Breast and a silver medal for same event.

Caoimhe McCormack (9) another beautiful swim resulting in PB’s in all her events, a well earned 5.77 sec in 50m Back, 0.15 sec in 50m Butterfly and 1.88 sec in 100IM.

Kate Flannery (9) demonstrated a lovely stroke technique resulting in amazing PB’s of 19.24 sec in 100m Free, 3.90 sec in 50m Back and 6.42 sec in 50m Breast.

Clodagh Kissane (10) swam very well on the day by achieving PB’s in all her events, 2.85 sec in 100m Free, 3.89 sec in 50m Back, 3.38 sec in 50m Free and a fantastic 6.66 sec in 50m Breast.

Jennifer Murphy (10) also achieved PB’s in all her events 2.47 sec in 100m Free, 3.09 sec in 50m Back, 2.17 sec in 50m Free and a super 7.33 sec in 50m Breast.

Faye Dowling (11) did very well with PB’s of 3.35 sec in 100m Free resulting in a ‘B’ time, 0.44 sec in 50m Back and 50m Butterfly and 1.27 sec in 50m Breast.

Katie Morrissey (11) a brilliant PB of 6.28 sec in 100m Free, 2.25 sec in 50m Back, 3.19 sec in 50m Free and 1.76 sec in 50m Breast.

Una Carew (11) another great swim with PB’s of 1.34 in 100m Free, 4.36 sec in 50m Back and 3.02 sec in 50m Butterfly.

Sorcha Ryan (11) had an unbelievable swim with PB’s of 2.02 sec in 50m back, a fantastic 7.31 sec in 50m Butterfly resulting in a ‘B’ time together with a silver medal, a phenomenal 20.11 sec in 100IM giving her another ‘B’ time and bronze medal and if this wasn’t enough she finished the day off by achieving an equally outstanding 13.15 sec in 50m Breast, giving her a third ‘B’ time.

Ellie O’Sullivan (11) an excellent swim achieving PB’s in all her events, 0.97 sec in 50m Back, 0.45 sec in 50m Butterfly, 3.30 sec in 100IM resulting in a ‘B’ time and 0.88 sec in 50m Breast and also bringing home a bronze medal for this event.

Sarah Marnane (11) swam very well with PB’s of 2.56 sec in 50m Back and a well deserved 6.87 sec in 100IM.

Norma Kennedy (13) an outstanding performance by achieving ‘B’ times in three of her events 100m Free, 50m back and 50m Butterfly which resulted in a fantastic PB of 8.87 sec, she also achieved a PB of 2.65 sec in 50m Breast.

Boys (12-13) Medley Relay Team consisting of Micheal McCabe, Orrin Cassidy, Patrick Tynan and David Kennedy finished with a gold medal in a very tense race demonstrating great team work.

Canon Relay Team with Ellie O’Sullivan, Denis Klimonov, Sorcha Ryan, Patrick Tynan, Norma Kennedy and Orrin Cassidy won a silver medal.

Congratulations and Best of Luck go to Faye Dowling, David Kennedy, Norma Kennedy and Sorcha Ryan who have now achieved their ‘B’ times and will join the Senior Squad. Well done also to all the swimmers who took part in the events and should be proud of themselves for their wonderful achievements.

The club is now looking forward to a Grade B gala for our Senior Squad on 10th March in Waterford.
