Almost 150 Banna Chluain Meala members, past and present, provided an outstanding evening’s entertainment recently at Hotel Minella, Clonmel at their 40th Anniversary Concert. The current concert band, under their conductor, Peter Taylor provided a varied programme that included music from former years. The band also included music from this year’s All Ireland winning Field Show Out of the Blue, conducted by Alan McCormack and guest conductor and former member Eoin O’Keeffe, who arranged the music. The audience were also treated to a variety of dance routines by the band’s Colour Guard to accompany the musical numbers.
As always, these routines were choreographed by long time instructor, Majella Hewitt Forte.
Special features of the evening were performances from the 1996 Drum Line, who came together for this once-off performance under their tutor Declan O’Keeffe and a 36-piece Former Members’ Concert Band conducted by Danny Carroll. Not to be outdone, the 14-piece Former Members’ Colour Guard gave a wonderful display to the appropriate music of One Moment in Time.
This was truly a momentous occasion with former members travelling from all parts of the world to be present. The concert had a real international flavour with visitors from Clonmel’s twin towns, Costa Masnaga, Italy and Gangi, Sicily and Peoria, USA present as well as special friends of the band, Mr. and Mrs.Cramer from Holland who had arranged the band’s visit there over many years.
The final event of the band’s celebration year is their dinner dance at Hotel Minella on Saturday, 22nd October with music by The Pearly Whites. Tickets are available at Marian’s, O’Connell Street or from band personnel and cost €40 each.
