Big interest in Tipp town drama

If you have been passing through Ballyglass in West Tipperary recently, you may have noticed that things are a bit busier than usual. This is because rehearsals are in full swing for The Forge Players’ production of Wake in the West by Michael Joseph Ginelly. This heart-warming comedy will take place on Saturday May 12 in the Marian Hall, Tipperary Town at 8pm.

The play is set in a small fishing village in County Mayo. It’s old Tom’s wake, and family and friends are quietly coming and going, paying their respects. But all is not as it seems. It’s hard to keep a secret in a small place, and when Tom’s unusual last wish is revealed in private to his daughter Mary, it isn’t long before it’s making headline news!

Meanwhile, Rose has her eye on Tom’s lovely set of false teeth. Now if only she had a “spoon or a tyre lever or something” to get that mouth of his open! To add to the confusion, Joan, the young, idealistic neighbour is finding it hard to hide her excitement at this sad time - Tom’s son Martin, her childhood sweetheart will soon be home, but is he home to stay? As if tensions weren’t running high enough already, Tom’s old drinking buddy Barney stumbles in - it looks like he’s had a little too much brandy! Matters are getting seriously out of hand, but can a hero save the day?

There is romance, mischief and high-jinks in this very entertaining show. Tickets are available at the door, and are priced at 10 Euro for adults, and 5 Euro for children. A donation will be given to the Fiona Power Fund from the proceeds of ticket sales on the night.
