The festive season begins at Crocanoir in Mullinahone on Saturday, December 1 with the arrival of Dunaill, a talented Folk group from Co Waterford.
Through a mutual love of music this group of six friends - Mairéad Murphy, Anne Kavanagh, Margaret Moore, Danny Kavanagh, Elaine Dunphy Pundure and Anthony Grant - came together to form ‘Dúnaill’.
Whilst singing together in their local bar one evening, they were invited to travel to Newfoundland to participate in the Ireland-Newfoundland Festival of the Sea.
Since then, the group have had the opportunity to perform several times in Newfoundland Canada and various Irish musical festivals and events.
Dúnaill were the first musical group from outside North America to tour at the March Hare Festival (www.themarchhare.ca).
Singing with world-renowned singer-songwriters, Ron Hynes (Sonny’s Dream) and Pamela Morgan, they have shared the stage and sung with such artists as The Once, Kevin Collins, Kevin Evans, Ennis and Harry Martin.
The group are unique in the diversity of their ages and have a wealth of musical experience from which to draw. Their music could be described as Celtic with a classical twist.
They are multi-instrumentalists, create their own unique arrangements and harmonies for each song and are currently writing their own material.
Earlier this year Dunaill spent some time at Crocanoir recording their album ‘Saltwater Joys’
Over several weekends the group took time out from their busy lives to focus on their music.
Under the expert guidance of Paddy O’Mahony and Andrew Whelan from Southern Mobile Recording, the songs were shaped and moulded into that distinct Dunaill style.
The songs crafted for the album now get their chance to soar through the winters night as Dunaill make the Crocanoir stage their own.
