Soldiers at The Sisters

Passers-by must have wondered why almost forty soldiers were entering the Sisters of Charity primary school last Tuesday. The soldiers were musicians from the Army Band of the First Brigade, up from Cork, to entertain the pupils and staff of the school. From the moment the music started, the elated faces were looking in one direction only.

The band gave two performances, one for the pupils of the Sisters of Charity and later for Miss Alley’s music students from the Presentation Secondary school.

It was a special day for three soldiers with the band who were returning to their home county, Keith Greene and Emmet Donlan from Clonmel and Eva Power from Carrick on Suir. Music from the movies, William Tell Overture and much more echoed through the school. Conductor, Captain Brian Prendergast, entertained and informed as he took the audience through the music and instruments of the band. It was a wonderful experience for the children and one they thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks to Company Sergeant Noel Galvin and School Principal Triona Geary for facilitating this special day.
