‘Men’s Sheds’ is a name given to an idea which originated in Australia some years ago to provide a social facility for men. Following their popularity the concept has spread worldwide and in Ireland they are now to be found in many counties.

The main purpose of a Men’s Sheds is to enhance the well-being of the participants by providing a friendly and welcoming place where men can gather. The members may also involve themselves in a variety of mutually agreed activities which they will determine themselves. The Shed may also be a place where they can share skills, learn new skills and enhance knowledge. All men are welcome in a Men’s Shed regardless of age, race, religion, background or ability. Members have ownership of their Shed, and have a say in the programmes and events which are followed.
