Cashel gears up for Cannonball Run and Gravity Festival

Festival season is far from over in Cahir as preparations step up for the town’s hosting of the Cannonball Run and Gravity Music Festival on September 13 and 14.

Festival season is far from over in Cahir as preparations step up for the town’s hosting of the Cannonball Run and Gravity Music Festival on September 13 and 14.

The two day event in the Inch Field beside the Castle are being run in aid of the Make A Wish Foundation. which grants the wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 years who have life threatening medical conditions.

“Gravity” takes place on Saturday, September 13. It’s an all day music festival featuring performers such as Paddy Casey, Bressie, Ham Sandwich and many more.

This is a ticketed event with prices ranging from €20. Camping tickets are also available. Tickets are on sale at Cahir House Hotel, Eurozone,The Square , O’Donnell’s Texaco Station, Mitchelstown Road and www.tickets.ie.

The following day, the famous Cannonball Run featuring 167 super cars will roll into town for lunchtime.

Actor Ryan Thomas, who plays Jason in Coronation Street will be among the celebrity drivers. The Cannonball Run is a three day tour of the country by the fleet of super cars, which will head to Tullamore, Co. Offaly after stopping off in Cahir.

It will be a fun-filled day for visitors, who come to see the super car with performances by various local artists, children’s entertainment and a traders’ village.

In the evening, a Soap Box Derby will be held on the main streets of the town with participants competing for the prize pool of €1,000 kindly sponsored by Woodview Service Station.

Following this there will be a Ball Drop, an exciting fundraising finale to the weekend, with a grand prize of €2,000 for the lucky winner.

Coloured balls will be sold prior to this event for €5 each. All the balls sold will be dropped from a pod at the top of Castle Street where they will make their way down the hill towards the Castle.

It will be a fantastic visual event with the balls all vying for the one spot in the glass jar at the end of the funnel. The ball that makes it to the glass jar will make one lucky person €2,000 richer. For further details go to www.facebook.com/GravityCahir.
