Showgrounds Shopping Centre agree St Patrick’s Day sponsorship deal with Shellikybookie

Shellikybookie, a street art and entertainment venture run by local volunteers, are designing an incredible 10 floats for Clonmel’s St. Patricks’ day parade in an attempt to make this year’s event the best parade Clonmel has ever seen. Five of these floats are for Shellikybookie and are inspired by Pink Floyd’s concept album and feature film ‘The Wall’. Local band The Waheys have also got in on the act and will be on one of the floats playing for the public.

As part of their on-going commitment to support local business and the arts in Clonmel, The Showgrounds Shopping Centre are delighted to announce their sponsorship of Shelikybookie’s floats in the parade and for numerous other installations throughout 2012.

The creator of Shellikybookie, Anthony Lawless commenting on the sponsorship deal said “There were days when I thought this project would never become a reality but then I remembered our ethos ‘Dare to Dream’ and that’s exactly what I did. The sponsorship from the Showgrounds is a very generous gift which has allowed us to realise our dreams and hopefully will continue to do so. They put their faith in us when we were just getting started and for that we are grateful but now they’ve seen what we can do they’re keen to work with us again.”

Shellikybookie and the Showgrounds first collaborated together at Christmas and the Showgrounds were so impressed with their work that they’ve commissioned Shellikybookie on a number of other projects. Julian Smith, Centre Manager of the Showgrounds commented “We’re delighted to be in a position to support such a vibrant, young organisation. Their work on our Christmas grotto was outstanding and we received so much positive feedback that we really believe there is scope for Shellikybookie to grow and grow. Anthony Lawless is a visionary in the work he creates. Not only that, but Shellikybookie provides a great outlet for people in the community to get involved with. What particularly appeals to us is that it really gives back to the town of Clonmel, through installations, floats and street entertainment. Everything they’ve been involved in to date has been fantastic for the town and we’re really looking forward to seeing what they produce for the parade! We’ve commissioned them to do numerous installations throughout the year and we’re genuinely excited to see what they come up with.

Shellikybookie is a not for profit organisation that relies on the generosity of the people in the community, not just financially, but also those who donate their time week in, week out to create these displays.
