Orla O’Dea, a twenty-one year old member of the local Clonmel/Rathkeevan club, is the South Tipperary representative in the Miss Macra Festival which takes place this August Bank Holiday weekend in the beautiful setting of Dundrum House Hotel from August 2-5.
The festival is in its 41st year and this year has a fresh new look with a trip to Coolmore, Glow in the Dark disco on Friday night, Interviews on stage and with the judges on Saturday with No Recession and DJ, Sunday is our Family Fun Day in Clonoulty/Rossmore GAA pitch with the Gala Banquet and Announcement of Miss Macra 2012 on Sunday night at midnight.
This year’s winner will take home €1,000, the perpetual trophy, a piece of Tipperary Crystal and a specially commissioned tiara provided by Michael’s Jewellers, Thurles.
South Tipp representative Oral O’Dea is currently studying Agricultural Science, in particular Animal and Crop production, in UCD.
She is passionate about tillage and also t has a love of tractors!
As well as that, Orla loves sport and plays tag rugby with her fellow Macra members every Thursday night in Clonmel.
Her ambition in life is to be a pilot in the Irish Air Corps and at the moment she is in the middle of the application process.
Her achievements in Macra to date include the South Tipp junior sheep stock judging representative this year, she has also taking part in the farm skills competitions and she was heavily involved in the planning and organising of a the clean up of her local graveyard.
Within her club, Orla has held the position of PRO in 2011 and she also travels around supporting her club and fellow members as much as she can.
Orla has also been awarded a silver and gold Gaisce award and has been involved in many charity events and trips. We wish Orla the best of luck as she represents South Tipp in the upcoming Miss Macra Festival.
