A new band from Carrick-on-Suir has just released its first single and is planning to bring out an EP by the end of the year.

Amber Jean’s “self released” debut single “Morning Snow” is available on-line through iTunes and the band will be producing their own CDs of the single over the next few weeks.

They also plan to shoot a video for the song and place it on YouTube.

The three man band comprises lead singer and acoustic guitar player Aidan O’Callahan from Town Park, bass guitar player and singer David O’Dwyer from Collins Park and lead guitarist and singer Graham Clancy also from Collins Park.

Both David and Aidan work at Abbott Vascular in Clonmel when not playing with the band, while Graham is studying for a music degree at Waterford Institute of Technology.

The three friends, who have past experience with other bands, came together in the early months of this year to write and rehearse some original songs. The band’s name is taken from an old Neil Young song.

David O’Dwyer said their many late night sessions at that time resulted in the creation of about a dozen songs, which they honed and arranged in February and March.

They then went up to Dublin and recorded “Morning Snow” and the B side song “Daytoura Dream” at Temple Lane Studios.

“We really hope people will like the single. Hopefully we will get a bit of success with it and develop a bit of a following,” said David, who described Amber Jean’s music as very melodic and strong on harmony.

Amber Jean’s first big gig was at the open air Rock on The Suir concert at the Clancy Brothers Music & Arts Festival in June where they played support to Mundy and Paddy Casey.

Their next goals are to return to Temple Lane Studios and record an EP, which they will call “Shadows and Tall Trees” and to secure more live gigs.

“The EP will feature seven to eight tracks. The songs are written, we just need to polish them. Hopefully it should be finished by the end of the year,” David told The Nationalist.
