Alexandra Nash and Julie Holland, both from Clonmel, have been recognised for their outstanding performances at the 2011 Leinster School of Music and Drama (LSMD) Excellence Awards at Griffith College.

The Leinster School of Music & Drama ‘Excellence Awards’ were launched in 2004 to mark the School’s centenary year. The competition was open to more than 15,000 students from all over Ireland, with the top 250 chosen to compete in the Excellence Awards. There is an award for both ‘Music’ and ‘Speech & Drama’ with the winners in each receiving a prize of a trophy and cheque for €300.

Alexandra was nominated for her outstanding performance in her Preparatory Grade exam and performed The Daffodil at the awards ceremony.

Julie was nominated for her Grade 1 piano exam and performed Little Sonata.

Both students attend lessons with Geraldine Molumby in Clonmel.

Commenting on the awards, Karen Casey, Manager of the Leinster School of Music and Drama at Griffith College, said; “The standard of the awards this year was exceptional and to be recognised for a performance really shows that the student has an abundance of talent and will go far in their chosen field.”
