Congratulations to Marlfield’s local hero Frank Clancy, who was nominated by the village committee for the annual Eileen Anderson Unsung Hero Award, which was won by Bridie Norris (see page 14).
“This award is for persons who contribute to their community and make their area a better place to live, and in Frank we had our man. Well done Frank and keep up the good work”, writes Marlfield correspondent Bernard Lennon.
Work is progressing on the reclaiming of the historic Marlfield Burial grounds, which contain the remains of a Middle Ages crusader; the family of Colin Powell, former American Secretary of State; and is the final resting place of many of Clonmel’s oldest families. The committe welcomes any assistance of labour, finance or a visit to see what it has managed to do so far with no funding, any Saturday morning.
The flood barriers have been removed and Sandybanks is again accessible. The ravages of the sustained flooding are visible, with big holes gouged out of the car park and the fencing destroyed.
