The lights, camera, action of Hollywood could be on their way to South Tipp - following the news that an Oscar winning director has been scouting possible filming locations here.
Oscar winning director and actor Mel Gibson was in Cahir on Monday of this week, where he toured Cahir Castle and later had lunch in the River House Cafe.
A spokesperson for Cahir Castle confirmed to The Nationalist that the superstar actor did pay them a visit on Monday, and is believed to be scouting for movie sets in Ireland.
Across the street at the River House Cafe, Jason Maher was surprised when a lunchtime booking turned out to be the famous actor and two colleagues.
“I shook his hand and all, he seemed to be a nice guy. He didn’t say much but his visit had something to do with a movie. He’s going to be producer and director, something very similar to Braveheart,” Jason said. “It would be great if he picked Cahir.”
A table had been booked in the cafe for lunch but no names were mentioned. There was a bit of excitement when Mel turned up.
“He stayed about an hour, had a bite to eat and a coffee. He had the home made steak pie and complimented the food,” Jason told The Nationalist.
The River House Cafe is owned by Jason and Jennifer Bailey.
Cahir Castle is no stranger to being a movie set - scenes for the movies ‘Excalibur,’ ‘Barry Lyndon’ and ‘Tristan and Isolde’ were shot there.
Mel Gibson is best known for movies including Braveheart, part of which was shot in Ireland, and the Lethal Weapon series.
