Beautiful portraits of a number of well-known local personalities are among the many features in the 10th edition of the annual Killenaule-Moyglass Journal which will be launched by parish native Pat Dunne in Scoil Ruain, Killenaule on Sunday next, December 1 at 3pm.
To mark the tenth anniversary of the popular publication, Editor Sean Watts and Assistant Editor Martin O’Connell have compiled the largest edition to date- a whopping 320 page colourful production crammed with articles and photographs.
In keeping with tradition, the Journal contains a wide range of articles on all aspects of life in the parish as well as stories and poems. The anniversary edition also carries an extensive range of old and modern photos.
Wednesday March 6 last was a red letter day in the parish with the official opening of the new sports complex in Scoil Ruain by Minister of State, Michael Ring. The ceremony to mark the opening of what is one of the finest sports facilities in Ireland is covered extensively in the Journal as is the activities of all other schools in the parish.
Clerical appointments in 2013 saw Fr Jimmy O’Donnell appointed Parish Priest of Killenaule-Moyglass to succeed Canon Liam Ryan who announced his retirement.
Fr Danny O’Gorman was appointed curate in the parish in succession to Fr Francis McCarthy who took up a new ministry in Kilcommon.
John Guiton pens a tribute to Canon Liam and Fr Francis, and extends a big cead mile failte to Fr Jimmy and Fr Danny.
Among the many other articles in the mammoth publication are: “The Ned Kelly Story” by Michael Clancy; “Music in the Air” by Michael de Faoite; “Young Soccer Star, Gavin Joy”: Head Chorister-14 year old Jamie Mark; “William O’Grady and his 1956 All-Ireland minor triumph” “Ann Marie Healy coaches basketball in New South Wales.” Lucy Connolly’s missionary work in Kenya, and Sr Mary Bourke is honoured with achievement award.
The book also features a number of tributes submitted by families and friends in memory of their loved ones who passed to their eternal reward in 2013.
