For over twenty years the Emly Support Group have fundraised initially for the Irish Heart Foundation and then the South Tipperary Hospice and this year was no exception as the committee proudly handed over a cheque for €7000 to Marie at South Tipp Hospice.
The committee raised the money by selling raffle tickets and running a dance night that brought the community and surrounding areas out in force to support this cause.
“We have raised approximately €150,000 over the years and I’d like to say a big thank you to Dermot Lyons and all the people who bought tickets and came out to support us on the night,” said Chairperson Patsy Byrnes.
In 2013, the committee were delighted to welcome some members to the Emly Support Group who have come on board for personal reasons as members of their families or friends have been affected by cancer.
Marie Harold-Barry, administrator at South Tipp Hospice, was delighted to receive this cheque from the Emly Support Group.
“We are absolutely thrilled and know that it took a huge amount of time and effort,” she said.
“The money they have raised over the years is really important to us as every penny count these days. The money will go towards the provision of home-care nurses that work in South Tipp Hospice and the equipment that they provide.”
Congratulations and well done to all involved.
