More than 260 music fans packed the Carraig Hotel in Carrick-on-Suir on Sunday night to pay tribute to former Savoy and Partners showbands lead man Don Duggan.

The hotel’s ballroom rocked to the sound of hits from the 1960s and 1970s enthusiastically sung along to by the audience.

The cabaret style show was a sell-out and people travelled from as far as England to see the music acts of their youth on stage again.

Don Duggan, of course, was the star of the night and he performed with Carrick showband musicias Stephen Travers of the Miami Showband and Liam O’Dwyer as well as Johnny O’Connor and Tony Egan.

Johnny Fean of Horslips fame was the special guest performer with his band. The “Dasher” Bolger, Dick Hayes and his son all from Waterford and Carrick’s Liamie (Doc) Doherty also took to the stage to perform.

There was also a “This is Your Life” segment on Don Duggan’s life in music.
