Stellar cast for The Irish Ring church benefit concert

Tickets are selling extremely well for a very special one-night performance of Gaudeamus Productions’s concert production of The Irish Ring, featuring the Irish Ballad Operas – Maritana, The Bohemian Girl and The Lily of Killarney in aid of Ss Peter and Pauls Renovation Fund, which takes place in the Clonmel church on this Friday, September 7th.

David Martin from Dundalk delighted Clonmel patrons when he performed in the annual Tipperary Millennium Orchestra Christmas concert last December. He performs with incredible stamina, agility and flexibility. He is described as posessing “a beautiful Italian Bel Canto quality in his voice, with fantastic vocal range”. He studied with Geraldine McGee in the Dundalk Dramatic Society before being accepted to study with Dr. Veronica Dunne in the Leinster College of Music and Drama and successfully completed Il Corso Di Canto E Perfezionamento Lirico in Montalto Ligure, Northern Italy.

In his career to date he has gained a wealth of experience in concert and stage performance, both nationally and internationally. He has performed the lead tenor roles in the several full stage productions including The Lilly of Killarney, The Gypsy Baron and Pink Champagne.

He has performed on TV and Radio, and on many occasions in the National Concert Hall, and in many theatrical venues around Ireland, the UK and Europe. David sang the lead tenor role in the Excel Theatre in Tipperary town last year with Gaudeamus and is delighted to be back performing with the group once again. He also performs regularly with The Three Tenors Ireland

Sarah-Ellen Murphy is a student of Olive Cowpar in Limerick. She achieved an Honours Diploma in singing from the London College of Music and Media and has a Bachelor of Education Degree with music from Mary Immaculate College.

Over the past number of years she has performed contralto solo in many oratorios with Limerick Choral Union, Mary Immaculate College Choir and the Galway Choral Association. She has an extensive oratorio repertoire and has sung concerts on many occasions with the Summer Music on the Shannon orchestra. In 2006 she received first prize in the contralto solo competition in Feis Ceoil in Dublin and was awarded the Margaret Dillon Memorial Trophy for Overall Voice of the Feis in Feis Maitiú in Cork in 2004. She reached the final of the All Ireland Talent Search in September 2007 held in the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

David and Sarah-Ellen will join local favourites Emma Walsh and Derek Ryan and the soloists will be supported by a chorus drawn from the cream of Tipperary, Thurles and Clonmel Musical Societies, together with a full orchestra under Conductor/Musical Director Danny Carroll ably assisted by Musical Director/Repetiteur Mary Rose McNally. The narrator will be Clonmel’s Niall Carroll of Lyric FM and the overall production is devised and produced by Michael O’Donoghue.
