Following on from the huge success last year of the dance cafe in The Showgrounds Shopping Centre in Clonmel, the Junction Festival has once again teamed up with the centre to bring you a dance café, the Dancing in the Streets competition and an outdoor market.

Once again one of the units in the centre will be converted into a dance café. This year the cafe is aimed at everyone who has an interest in hip hop and this is an amazing opportunity for dance enthusiasts to learn new moves.

Banxy, the artist in residence for the duration of the Festival, which continues until this Sunday, 10th, is one of the original practitioners of the b boy/b girl, street and hip hop genre. He has taught the core fundamentals of this ever popular art form to participants for over 20 years. The idea behind a b boy/b girl skills workshop is to give the students/participants a crash course in the original foundation of breakin’. All his workshops offer participants the chance to learn new and challenging moves, explore their own creativity and engage positively with others, while learning in a fun and safe environment.

Banxy’s workshops are suitable for those aged 7-plus and are individually tailored to meet the needs and experience levels of the age and abilities of the specific group.

The café will have a special focus on youth. There will be numerous opportunities for showcase performance for a wide range of groups and participants, from amateur to proficient. Rannel Theatre Company will bring their piece Flhip Flhop to Clonmel Junction Festival for four performances and as Banxy has such close links with the company he’ll be able to involve Matt Bailey and Joey D of the company in delivering some special breaking, beatbox and DJ events in the café.

The timetable of events for the cafe are as follows:

11-12: Advanced Hip Hop/Keep Fit

12.15-13.15: Ask & Learn

1.30-2.30: Break dance Basic (over 10 years)
