International artist John Keating’s exhibition of recent works was launched by John Lynch, the chairman of the board of South Tipperary Arts Centre, at the Nelson Street, Clonmel centre on Friday night.
Originally from Gladstone Street, Clonmel, John Keating has made his name in the art world with exhibitions around the world including Japan, China, Italy, the United States and Britain.
He has also won many very prestigious awards over the years, including a gold medal at the Olympic Fine Art Exhibition at the London Barbican in 2012; this year’s sixth Biennale D’Arte International in Monte Carlo; the fifth Biennale Internationale of Stemperando Bibliotheca Nazionale Roma in Italy; and the Second Edition Water Cube Cup International Painting Exhibition in Beijing.
John was also the young mascot of the South Tipp Art Group (STAG) when it was founded 47 years ago and he regaled the large attendance at Friday night’s launch with stories of his time in Clonmel and in the art group.
Gestures, his exhibition at the Arts Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 5pm through lunch and on Saturday from 10am to 2pm up to and including Tuesday, December 16. Admission is free and this is a show not to be missed.
