Macra na Feirme’s 2011 AIB Club of the Year competition was launched recently by Dr. Anne Finnegan, AIB Bank and Macra na Feirme National President, Alan Jagoe. Details of a new element of the competition, specifically for new and emerging Macra clubs was also announced.

Speaking at the launch Ms Finnegansaid: “AIB are delighted to sponsor the AIB/Macra na Feirme Club of the Year Competition. This competition provides Macra clubs and indeed individual Macra members with the platform to showcase the considerable range of activities that they participate in, throughout the year. This year we have introduced the ‘Best Emerging Club’ category to acknowledge the achievements of newly established clubs. Macra clubs make a significant contribution to Irish communities and we are delighted to recognise this contribution.”

Alan Jagoe, Macra National President said, “Macra na Feirme has been a cornerstone of rural communities for decades and clubs are the fabric of Macra. Macra clubs in towns and villages throughout the country provide a service to rural young people and the communities they live in. We want to recognise the hard work and dedication of members around the country, and also to recognise AIB’s constant support of Macra na Feirme and its members. This competition is a high point for Macra clubs across the country and brings an element of healthy competition. I would urge all clubs irrespective of their size to fill out the entry forms and get involved in the competition. I am delighted that a category has been introduced this year to recognise the emerging clubs in Macra”.

The AIB Club of the Year is a prestigious competition run by Macra na Feirme which awards the most dynamic and active Macra clubs in the country. Six clubs will be selected to go forward to the national final, which will take place at the Macra Annual Conference in Little Island, Cork over the October bank holiday weekend.

The ‘AIB Best New Macra Member’ Award will also be presented as part of the Club of the Year competition to one individual Macra member who is deemed by his/her club to have made a significant contribution to the development of the club during their first year of membership.

‘Best Emerging Club’ is a new category of the Club of the Year competition and is specifically for new and emerging Macra clubs. The Best Emerging Club award has been designed to acknowledge the achievements of newly established Macra clubs. Macra clubs established after the 1st of November 2009 will be considered for the new award this year.
