Minister Alan Kelly has welcomed the decision of his Department of Transport to allocate €71,000 extra funding for roads surfacing in County Tipperary. Minister Kelly says that the funds will help resurface and improve some roads in the county that are in very bad need of repair. North Tipperary has been allocated just over €33,000 and South Tipperary has received over €38,000.
This reallocation of Capital Expenditure will be spent on shovel-ready projects that have been submitted by the local councils and also on the essential winter maintenance scheme. Part of the agreement for the extra funding is that these projects will be completed by Nov 30th, before the winter season.
This extra funding has come about via the introduction of competitive tendering processes for other projects which has yielded significant savings that can be utilised for road improvements.
