Cashel will host the OAP Olympics to celebrate Positive Ageing Week, a nationwide festival and Ireland’s largest celebration of ageing.

The OAP Olympics takes place today, Wednesday, September 26, in the Padre Pio Nursing home, Holycross from 1.30pm.

Positive Ageing Week officially runs from September 28 to October 6, nationwide, and Cashel is one of 15 ‘Positive Ageing Week Towns’ in Ireland participating in the festival this year. Each town will run a series of community-based events throughout the week, to celebrate the contribution older people make in their communities.

With an estimated 1,250 events expected to take place across Ireland, north and south, this year is set to be the biggest Positive Ageing Week festival to date, and is also the 10th anniversary of the festival.

Over 20 events will take place in Cashel over the course of the Positive Ageing Week and everyone is encouraged to get involved ‘whether you are aged 3 or 93’.

Other events in Cashel include:

Thursday, September 27: Arthur Guinness Day celebrations in the Padre Pio Nursing Home, Holycross, starting at 2.30pm.

Friday, September 28: Social Dancing night in Halla na Feile, Cashel. Come along and dance the night away from 9pm.

Wednesday, October 3: Master Quiz in association with Cashel Day Care Centre taking place in Cashel Library at 2pm.
