As lights are turned off, decorations taken down and the festive season is consigned to history traders are mulling over their figures and wondering if Santa had brought any Christmas cheer.
The general consensus among retailers in Cashel ranged from sluggish to disappointing roughly in line with national trends and generally down on last year. Pre Christmas takings were down and only improved when the sales began. A big move to online purchasing and a migration away from the local shop to multi brand shopping centres were given as reasons for the downturn. The hospitality industry appears to have fared better. Pub and restaurant owners said they were very happy overall with the festive season.
