Free parking will be available in car parks in Clonmel and Cahir every Saturday from 10am during December.
The announcement comes following negotiations with traders and the Chambers of Commerce.
The Mayor of Clonmel/Cahir Borough District Council, Cllr. Martin Lonergan has welcomed the announcement.
â€œAs in previous years this move in the run-up to Christmas has being extremely beneficial to the local economy with positive feedback from retailers and customersâ€, he stated.
â€œIt is extremely important that we continue to encourage people to support local businesses in Clonmel and Cahir and this Christmas more than ever I believe that it is vital that people support local businesses throughout the districtâ€.
Parking charges will continue to apply for on-street parking in both towns during December.
Motorists can avail of free parking at the following car parks in Clonmel - Abbey Street (Friary), Mary Street, Gordon Place, Mick Delahunty Square, Kickham Street (SuperValu), Quay Street, Lower Irishtown (West Gate), Suirside (off Old Waterford Road) and the County Council car park; and at the Castle car park in Cahir.
